Phalaborwa Foundation get a standing ovation

Phalaborwa Foundation tutors, Eric Mamba and Jacob Thobejane, received a standing ovation from the more than 130 Master Maths delegates at the recent Master Maths National Awards evening, held at the Emerald Casino Resort. They were honoured by Master Maths directors for Exceptional Service and outstanding Grade 12 results in 2008.

The Foundation's Master Maths programmes have been encouraging learners with potential to take mathematics at the higher grade since 1994. More than 300 participating high school learners attend extra mathematics lessons in the afternoons, evenings and during school holidays at the Leboneng, Rexile and Frans du Toit High School interactive computerized Master Maths Centres.

During the past five years the Grade 12 pass rate has been well above the national average. Their 2008 results were astounding. They had 58 Grade 12 learners enrolled to do mathematics during 2008. Not only did all 58 pass (average mark 60,5%), they also managed to get 12 distinctions with the highest mark being 97%.
