A free photoelectric effect module for you to view and share!

Welcome to one of our Master Science modules!

This module is the second one on the photoelectric effect, which is part of the Grade 12 curriculum, and therefore assumes certain knowledge from the first module. A learner in our centres would never be asked to do this module without having done the preceding one. Viewing it will help to provide you with an idea of how our system functions. Do not worry if you cannot answer the introductory questions which are recapping what was explained in the first module.

The photoelectric effect explains the basic concept of how solar-powered cells work. The photoelectric effect was used many years before solar-powered cells were invented. For example, it was used in old-fashioned, handheld light meters, which were used in photography. Although you will not be able to type in your answers, try pausing the module when a question is asked and see if you can answer it. Then look at what the learner who did the module answered. Sometimes they get the answer wrong! When this happens a ‘Hint’ appears in orange and blue, to help them work out the answer.

We rely on tutors who assess and diagnose the problem areas experienced by learners.  Then they use our system to help rectify the areas with which the learners struggle. This allows our learners to progress with the required curriculum, as the building blocks they need are in place.

Our system consists of various components. Modules are one of the learning tools we use. These interactive lessons appeal to the modern learner, as today’s learners are more visually inclined. Concepts are discussed and explained, and learners are required to solve problems as they learn about different concepts. At the end of the module, we have what we call a “How-to” section, where learners answer questions relating to what they have just learnt. This is then supported through other worksheets, and test and exam practice.
