About Umhlanga Master Maths
Classes or ‘lessons’ for grade 4 to 12 learners. Our Master Maths Umhlanga centre provides extra maths help using trained tutors for mathematics teaching and tutoring. Wiskunde ekstra klasse is volledig tweetalig.
The Master Maths system is aimed primarily at Grades 4 to 12 in line with SA’s school curriculum. There are close to 150 centres throughout South Africa. It’s been in operation since 1976 and has been honed into a highly effective teaching tool.
Master Maths uses the computer-based M2 system with animated images to encourage learner interaction. While learners work independently at their own pace, trained tutors are on hand when needed and to monitor progress.
A test is done after each computer teaching module. If a problem still exists, the learner is assisted until he/she is able to click the concept with confidence. A detailed record of the learner’s activities is automatically logged on the computer, which allows tutors to monitor progress.
A problem some learners have during classes at school is “blocking” or giving up when they haven’t grasped a particular maths concept — this is often the reason why they battle with maths through their school years and beyond. It’s extremely important that prior concepts are fully understood to enable the learner to make headway through the ensuing grades. Master Maths uses unique baseline assessments to accurately pinpoint concepts from earlier grades that the learner may not have grasped. Once identified, the concepts are fully explained. This is one of the key success factors of the system. It also encourages self-confidence. That being said, learners need to put in their own share of work!
